Name: Peter (nickname) Age: 16 Team: 1967 (Janksters) from San Jose, CA Years: 3 Position(s): Head of Marketing Reason: I like writing, graphic design, taking things apart, and filing… Motto: Make it work! Obsessions: British TV and animes, knitting
Position: Manager of Chairman’s and Award Submissions
Reason: Wanted more experience writing, ended up loving electrical engineering
Motto: We are leading the herd for a brighter future.
Obsessions: Watching movies (Fight Club, The Breakfast Club, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, etc.), reading books (mostly by Paul Auster or the Scott Pilgrim comics), and painting.
Team: FTC 417, The Team Formerly Known as Exothermic Robotics (WA)
Years: 2010-2011, 2011-2012
Position(s): Spirit captain, I also am responsible for the Engineering Notebook, bugging everybody to actually write down what they’re thinking, typing it all up and compiling it neatly in one place, etc. Our notebook is awesome and definitely helped ggt us to World this year. B) (but nobody typed anything up over the summer so I am backlogged to July!!!)
Reason: Meet cool people, gain cool skills, attend sweet nerd parties. One of my favorite things about FIRST is the diversity of skills on a team. Yes a lot of it is the robot, and there’s many specializations there, but also there is a place for art students, writers, businesspeople, web design, sewing, even (shoutout to the team from Alaska at World with the Aperture Science jumpsuits! That was awesome!) If there is a skill you have or want to learn, there is a place to practice it in FIRST. One of my good friends is a theatre/literature nut and we recruited her with a promise of heading our Promote award entry. Cameras and video editing software are definitely both technologies!!
Motto: Is there a problem? Have you done everything you can to fix it? Yes? Keep calm and carry on.
Reason: I saw the teams at many community events, and they had demonstrated at my middle school and at one of my Boy Scout troop’s meetings. The head coach is involved with the troop, and his sons either were or are in the troop now. The team seemed awesome and looked like a lot of fun. Joining it was the best decision of my life =)
Motto: I never let schooling get in the way of my education (Sorry Mark Twain)
Obsessions: Marching Band, Boy Scouts…Robotics pretty much takes up my entire life, so yeah…
